Allegory:  An Examination  of  Self

Rock Ridge High School art students talk about the process of creating an allegorical self-portrait and their journey to self-discovery.

The sophomore and junior students in Heather Mill’s Rock Ridge High School art class spent the past school year learning to express themselves through art.  The task of creating an allegorical self- portrait was a  year-long  process, as students had to first understand the meaning of the word “allegory,” then research allegory in art and present their discoveries to their classmates, and finally do some soul-searching to uncover the process of painting their own allegory! Examples of the  hidden  messages in their final masterpieces include global warming, personalities, peace, happiness, modern beauty standards, and  stewardship.

Stop by the Welcome Center for the display of these talented students’ artwork, and learn more about their journey to self-discovery in this on- line video.
