We want to make Brambleton the healthiest place to live, so we’re kicking off the ArmorUp Campaign on March 1st! Founded by Brambletonian and cancer-survivor, Loriana Hernandez-Aldama, and sponsored by Brambleton and Sport&Health, the ArmorUp Campaign is a 30-day wellness challenge designed to prepare participants to be “fit for the fight” for whatever comes their way. All proceeds from the $30 participation fee will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. So pull together a team of co-workers, friends or family to join you in the challenge and help spread the word on social media with #ArmorUp and #IGotThis.

The events kicked off at noon as nearly 125 participants made their way around the 1K Fun Run/Walk course along with family and friends. Children proudly displayed jingle bells around their necks to “ring in hope” for the New Year. Pony rides and a barrel train, temporary tattoos, music, moon bounces, and more offered entertainment for the younger ones after the Fun Run/Walk. Participants also enjoyed Chick-fil-A at the finish line, as well as a free brew at the Lost Rhino Retreat!
The pre-race warmups attracted large crowds this year, and at 1 pm the 5K and 10K runners set off on their respective races. 5K winners included Laurel Le Moigne of Springfield, VA with a time of 18:31 (lady’s first place), and Sam Lushinski of Ashburn, Va, with a time of 17:14 (men’s 1st place). The 10K event featured winners: Tatiana Sheptock of South Riding, VA with a time of 40:03; Steve Hammel of Hamilton, VA came in first place for the men with a time of 36:25. Nearly $5,000 in awards and prizes were awarded during the event to winners from each age category as well as to overall winners and recipients of raffle prizes, thanks to the generosity of our community supporters and sponsors.
