When choosing a neighborhood to live in, it’s important to make sure you feel at home in the area as well as in your house. After all, a home is made through community, and community flourishes when people have the opportunity to connect with each other. One of the best places to find community in a neighborhood is in its parks, of which Brambleton already has many, as well as 18 miles of paved trails weaving together between them. And now the County has built a neighboring park, The Hal & Berni Hanson Regional Park, with a ribbon cutting set for this Friday, September 23, 2022 at 5:30 PM.
Hanson Park is located on 257 acres between Brambleton and our neighboring community of Willowsford. The land itself was a thoughtful gift from the family of noted writer, U.S. State Department official and nonprofit leader, Haldore ‘Hal’ Hanson, who died in 1992. An explicit wish of Hal and his wife Berni was that the Hanson Family Partnership only sell this land if it would be used as parkland, and we are so grateful for it. Hanson Park has taken shape with not only the public in mind, but through its direct contribution. Wally Holladay, an acclaimed skatepark designer, was also brought on to the project as a design consultant, but this isn’t all the park will offer.
Athletes of all levels will surely enjoy the attention to a variety of sports, including 10 multi-purpose soccer fields, four baseball and softball fields, a cricket field, four tennis courts and Pickleball courts, two artificial turf fields, an outdoor basketball court, batting cages, a disc golf course, a skate plaza and grandstands for fans. Kiddos will also have access to two playgrounds with rubberized surfaces, a splash pad and inclusive features to make sure everyone has a good time.
For those interested in nature, Hanson Park will offer five ponds and an integrated irrigation system, fishing piers, a lodge and nature center, picnic pavilion, an amphitheater, paved and natural surface trails, and off-leash areas for dogs so your pup can get in on the fun too. The park will include concession and restroom buildings and pavilions, and history buffs will surely enjoy exploring the historic Lee-Hanson house which underwent renovations during park construction.
Hanson Park is a pretty incredible public park, but Brambleton also has a wide array of neighborhood parks located throughout the community to serve the leisure and recreational needs of all Brambleton owners, residents, and their guests. Owned and maintained by Brambleton Community Association (BCA), each of these parks provides fun ways for Brambletonians to connect with neighbors and build community, including: Legacy Park, which has 2 playgrounds, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, a zipline, climbing structures, lighted tennis courts, an open playfield, natural pond, swings and waterfalls; and Morning Walk Park, featuring play structures for 2-5 year olds as well as 5-12 year olds, dual zip lines, double slides, a sand volleyball court, a large playfield, trails, landscaping and irrigation.
Another Brambleton favorite is Acorn Park – a medium-sized open space park with trees, a walking trail and benches, which makes it a fabulous place to take a break or change your scenery if you work from home. There is also Creighton West Park featuring two basketball courts, four tennis courts and a dog park, and Dragonfly Park, a small park with beautiful views of Brambleton’s 2nd largest pond.
Brambleton also offers some places with just kids in mind, with playgrounds at:
With all of this and more, Brambleton is the perfect place to find not just a physical house, but a community to call home. It’s important to find spaces outside your four walls you can continue to feel safe and inspired to live your best life, and Brambleton is proud to provide that for each resident, whether they want to spend some time working outside their home or take the family on an outdoor adventure without ever leaving Brambleton.
