Interview with Brambletonian, Joanne Hollindrake

You’re originally from Yorkshire, England. What brings you to Brambleton?

We moved from a small town called Haworth, which is just outside the Yorkshire Dales. Many people will be familiar with Haworth as the home of the Bronte Sisters (from the novels Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre). We had been visiting the U.S. and the Ashburn area for many years because we have family here and just fell in love with Brambleton as we saw the area grow and develop!

What’s your favorite part about living in Brambleton?

My husband, Tim, and I definitely love the people and the sense of community here. When we arrived in the U.S. we had a handful of friends, but Brambleton has so many great places and activities that it’s easy to meet new people and make some great friends with fellow Brambletonians.

Can you tell me about how you found your career and started Regal Maid Service?

Humans of Brambleton: Joanne Hollindrake of Regal Maid ServiceThe Regal Maid Service is part of a franchise with the majority of offices in Florida and one outside of Atlanta. When we lived in England, Tim owned a cleaning business primarily focusing on window cleaning. For more than 18 years I worked for a large financial institution based in their customer service department.

Like many people, we were looking for a change and a new adventure. Around the same time, we found an article in the Washington Post about an English couple who had moved from Manchester in 1992 and had started a maid service in Florida and they were looking to expand outside of the state. We saw our opportunity, and the rest is history.

What do you love about your work?

We love the trust we’ve received from the community to care for their homes inside and out. As the community has given to us, we also want to give back, so we work closely with the Step Sisters, an organization based in Brambleton, and together we provide a home cleaning service for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Do you have any pro tips about keeping a house clean?

People always ask for the secrets to keeping your home clean, and my answer is hire Regal Maids!

When you’re not working, what keeps you busy?

When we aren’t working (which any small business owner will tell you almost never happens), I can be found at Sport&Health in Brambleton morning, noon and night, and Tim can be found on the Brambleton Golf Course. We both love to travel and explore this great country, and we also have a 20-year-old son in college who keeps us busy!

If you could tell the Brambleton community one thing, what would it be?

We are very grateful for everything and everyone who has contributed to our success in Brambleton, Virginia, and the U.S. We could never have imagined how happy we would be here and although we miss our family in England, we have a new family here in Brambleton.
