In the roughly 10 minutes it takes to donate, as many as 300 people could be waiting for a lifesaving transfusion – including someone right here in our community.
That’s why blood drives matter. So when a request to host one at the Town Center landed in our Inbox, we didn’t hesitate. What made it even more meaningful? The initiative came from a group of dedicated high school students willing to spend their weekend giving back.
Hats off to Savir Bandari and fellow students from Independence High School’s chapter of The American Heart Association who are hosting the Inova Blood Drive at Brambleton Town Center this Sunday, April 19, from 9 AM to 1 PM, alongside the weekly EatLoco Farmers Market at Brambleton.
Independence High School’s American Heart Association chapter is a group of students committed to their mission to promote heart health, lead healthier lifestyles, and raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases and wellness within their community. The club meets at least twice a month to plan events, fundraisers, and other outreach activities. With the support and guidance of a school advisor, the heart club is a student led organization made up of 11 students who have chosen Savir Bandari as their club president.
“Through small fundraisers, outreach initiatives, and partnerships with local sponsors, we work to raise funds that directly support the American Heart Association’s efforts in research, education, and advocacy. Every event we organize, no matter the size, contributes to a larger goal of creating lasting changes and helping others live longer, healthier lives.
Beyond fundraising, we take pride in actively engaging our community. From spreading awareness about healthy habits to organizing meaningful events and showing our peers how to host a blood drive in high school, we try our best to create opportunities for others to get involved and make a difference. Being able to host a blood drive is definitely one of our most rewarding accomplishments, as it directly contributes to saving lives and supporting those in need.” –Savir Bandari, Club President
These students take their mission seriously and are not only focused on giving back but also on building a culture of leadership, initiative, and service. Being part of this organization allows them to grow as individuals while working together toward a shared purpose of improving heart health and making a positive impact, one step at a time.
